Mt. Hood
South Side

Most of the South Side Route is actually pretty boring since you're walking up the easy ski runs of the Palmer Glacier. Once you reach the crater, though, it becomes very scenic. Here is Ellie approaching "Hell's Kitchen".
We went up during a weekday and had the Hogsback all to ourselves.

Cresting the hill early in the morning reveals great conditions for the rest of the climb.

This is a view back down the Hogsback. Mt. Hood has always been one of the best climbs if you like "Cloud Seas".

A view from the top of "The Pearly Gates". This area is a real bottleneck during busy times. I feel that it is an unsafe area since there are often dozens of inexperienced climbers, ascending and descending, converging on this little chute. One climber falling would wipe out many people.

Another obligatory summit photo from our first climb of Hood. (Notice the ski boots. It was quite the show trying to ski down with full packs for the first time. It looks so easy when they do it on TV.)
